Brief history of Wong Tai Sin Temple
In 1899 the original Wong Tai Sin Temple was built in Fangcun. It was frequently visited by residents of Guangzhou and Guangdong Province to pay their respects to this Taoist God. Although the building was later destroyed, the artifacts of the stone plaques, stone pillars and delicate handcarvings recall the impressive design of the architect. A follower of Wong Tai Sin migrated to Hong Kong and rebuilt the Temple on the southern slope of the Lion Rock in 1921. Since then the Temple in Hong Kong has been crowded with local and overseas worshippers all year round.

The project for the re-construction of the Wong Tai Sin Temple in Guangzhou was supported by the Provincial, Municipal and District Governments as well as the local and overseas Chinese community. Canada Land Limited, Hong Kong, financed the reconstruction of the Wong Tai Sin Temple on the original site in Fangcun. After two years of planning and design, the ground-breaking took place on November 9, 1997. Phase I of the Project was finally completed and opened to public on February 6, 1999 with 130,000 visitors.

Wong Tai Sin Project is made up of the Wong Tai Sin Main Hall, the Kuanyin Hall, the Master Lu Hall, the Hall of Confucius, God of Money, Kuanti and the Chinese Zodiac Gods, display of peculiar garden rocks, a Wishing Turtle in the Lotus Pond, Artifacts display area, a Pagoda and the Gardens, etc.
